Havering Council in east London has raised the Progress Pride Flag to mark the start of LGBT+ History Month.

The flag raising, which took place this morning (3 February), outside Havering Town Hall, Romford, signals the start of a month of activities to celebrate LGBTQ+ history.

Nationally, this year marks 20 years of LGBT+ History Month in the UK, with this year’s theme,  Activism and Social Change.

In Havering, the borough’s libraries will be presenting LGBTQ+ book displays, where residents will be able learn about pivotal LGBTQ+ figures.

Councillor Gerry O’Sullivan, Mayor of Havering, said: “It is a proud moment to celebrate 20 years of LGBT+ History Month by raising the Progress Pride Flag and to continue showing our solidarity and support for the local LGBTQ+ community.

“This month is an opportunity for us all to celebrate and recognise all the achievements and rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people.

“We always welcome any event which brings our communities closer together in Havering.”
