Fundraiser launched to support drag star Ginny Lemon’s recovery from meningitis

A fundraising campaign has been launched to support RuPaul’s Drag Race UK star Ginny Lemon, who is currently hospitalised with meningitis. The beloved performer, known for their eccentric style and sharp wit, is said to be “very unwell” and facing a lengthy recovery.
The fundraiser, organised by Adam Carver, aka fellow drag artistFatt Butcher, aims to provide financial support during Ginny’s time away from work. As a self-employed artist, Ginny does not receive sick pay and will be unable to earn income while recovering. The campaign seeks to “fill the gap” and help cover essential living costs such as mortgage payments and bills.
“Ginny is a working-class disabled queer artist with no financial support to fall back on,” Adam wrote on the JustGiving page. “The worry about how to cover their mortgage and bills during this time is real.”
The original fundraising goal of £1,000 has already been surpassed, with over £2,350 raised so far. Supporters from across the UK drag scene and beyond have rallied around Ginny, sending messages of love and encouragement.
Ginny, 36, shared a light-hearted update from their hospital bed on Instagram, joking about the timing of the illness coinciding with the release of their album Fruit Loop. “Why can’t it be Themingitis?” they quipped, before adding, “Seriously tho I’m very unwell and hospital bound for the next 10–14 days.”
Meningitis is a serious infection affecting the protective membranes around the brain and spinal cord. If untreated, it can lead to life-threatening complications such as sepsis and permanent neurological damage.
