First Loughborough Pride to “celebrate town’s inclusivity and vibrant spirit”

Loughborough is set to host its first-ever official LGBTQ+ Pride celebration, a landmark event on Saturday, August 17 created by the community for the community. The event, organised by the team behind OUT in Loughborough, an LGBTQ+ social group, aims to celebrate the town’s inclusivity and vibrant spirit.

The inaugural Loughborough Pride will transform four queer-friendly spaces in and around Wards End into Loughborough’s first-ever ‘Queer Quarter’.

The event will feature free, live entertainment throughout the evening, showcasing some of the county’s most exciting talents, including singers, drag artists, lip-synch performers, dancers and DJs. There will also be representatives from various community LGBTQ+ groups.

“As residents of Loughborough and Charnwood, we love that Loughborough is a safe, welcoming, and inclusive place to live, work, study, and socialise. And we want to celebrate that,” says Jonathan Fraser, founder of Loughborough Pride.

“We want to build a legacy for Loughborough and create an evolving annual event that will become a highlight of the Charnwood calendar.”

Loughborough Pride is being brought to life by a team of unpaid volunteers – united in wanting to promote positive change in the town they love and live. Their vision is to create a wonderful and inclusive community event that will grow and expand in the future, celebrating the diversity of this university town and its surrounding county.

Jonathan Fraser adds, “The support we’ve received from local businesses and organisations has been incredible. It truly shows the strength of our community and our collective commitment to fostering inclusivity and celebration.”

Loughborough Pride is taking place due to generous support from Leicester Pride, Aspire Pharma, McDonald’s, Charnwood Borough Council, and the four hosting venues.
