Fans call for former Olympian and current gender critic Daley Thompson to be booted from Celebrity Big Brother

Former Olympian and gender critic Daley Thompson has been slammed by fans of Celebrity Big Brother after clashing with RuPaul’s Drag Race star Danny Beard.

Thompson, who wrote a feature in Daily Mail in 2023 titled, ‘If trans athletes can compete in female events, then women’s sport is finished’, gave late entrant Beard a frosty reception.

Beard confided in comedian and actress Donna Preston about the situation. The drag star her that in the living room, they mistakenly thought Mickey Rourke was selecting them for a secret task, which prompted Thompson to say to Beard: “Not everything is about you”.

The star of RuPaul’s Drag Race told Preston: “I’m overthinking it. I’m gonna totally make an effort with him tomorrow, that’s it.”

However, in the diary room, Beard admitted: “I think I’ve tried to make an effort with everybody, but I heard Daley make a comment like, ‘Well, not everything revolves around you’ and, I don’t know if I’m overthinking it…

“I can sense or I feel like he’s a bit wary of me, and that’s fine because maybe I’m also a little bit wary of him.”

Taking to their X account, one fan penned: “I’m so glad Danny has Daley clocked so early on #CBBUK get him out first.”

Daley Thompson has been long accused of homophobia after wearing an offensive shirt mocking a fellow Olympian in 1984 that read: “Is the world’s second-best athlete gay”.

It was thought to be directed at US sprinter Carl Lewis, who was subjected to rumours about his sexuality at the time, although he has never spoken about it. Thompson denied this, saying it “could be anybody, Carl Lewis, anybody”.
