Elon Musk to seek full custody of son with Ashley St Clair after she apologises for anti-trans comments

Elon Musk has declared he will seek full custody of his one-year-old son with influencer Ashley St Clair, following her public apology for past remarks about the trans community.

The Tesla and SpaceX chief posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, stating:
“I’ll be filing for full custody today, given her statements implying she might transition a one-year-old boy.”

St Clair, 27, had earlier expressed remorse for previous transphobic comments, acknowledging the harm they may have caused Musk’s trans daughter, Vivian Wilson. In her post, she wrote: “I feel immense guilt for my role, and even more guilt that things I have said in the past may have caused my son’s sister more pain… I have been trying incredibly hard privately to learn and advocate for those within the trans community that I’ve hurt.”

The influencer, known for her conservative commentary and author of Elephants Are Not Birds, revealed last year that Musk fathered her son, Romulus, born in September 2024. Their relationship has since descended into legal disputes, with St Clair suing for sole custody and alleging Musk withdrew financial support as retaliation.

Musk’s claim centres on St Clair’s supposed “implications” about transitioning their child - though no public statement from her suggests such intent. Online reaction has been swift, with critics questioning the basis of Musk’s accusations and mocking his interpretation of her apology.
