Elliot Page reveals verbal abuse from A-List actor after coming out

Canadian actor Elliot Page has opened up about a disturbing encounter with a Hollywood A-lister who verbally abused him over his sexuality shortly after he came out as gay in 2014.
In his 2023 memoir Pageboy, Page recounts a shocking incident at a Los Angeles birthday party, where an unnamed actor - described as an “acquaintance” - made deeply homophobic remarks. The actor allegedly told Page, “You aren’t gay. That doesn’t exist. You are just afraid of men,” before threatening, “I’m going to f**k you to make you realise you aren’t gay.”
The chapter detailing the event is titled Famous A**hole at Party, and Page notes that several people witnessed the exchange. Days later, the actor reportedly approached Page at a gym, claiming, “I don’t have a problem with gay people, I swear,” to which Page responded, “I think you might.”
Page, who came out as trans in 2020, said he chose to include the anecdote to highlight the persistent discrimination faced by LGBTQ+ individuals, particularly in environments dominated by cisgender and heterosexual norms. “A lot of queer and trans people deal with it incessantly,” he wrote. “These moments that we often don’t talk about or we’re supposed to just brush off, when actually it’s very awful.”
The actor has not named the individual involved, stating, “He will hear about this and know it’s him.”
Page’s memoir also explores other personal experiences, including a past relationship with actress Kate Mara and the emotional toll of living in secrecy. His candid reflections have been praised for shedding light on the challenges faced by LGBTQ+ people in the entertainment industry.
