Cape Town is set to sparkle as Miss Drag South Africa gears up for its highly anticipated 2025 Grand Finale. The crowning gala will take place on Saturday, 6 December, at the iconic Artscape Theatre, promising an evening of glamour, talent and purpose-driven celebration.
Founded in 2016 under the ethos of “Drag with a Purpose”, the pageant has grown into the continent’s leading drag competition. Far more than a showcase of artistry, Miss Drag South Africa challenges its contestants to become agents of change. Each finalist is required to design and implement a community project, which accounts for 30% of their overall score - a testament to the event’s commitment to social impact and empowerment.
This year’s 13 finalists hail from across South Africa, representing regions from Limpopo to the Western Cape. They were unveiled earlier in the year and have since demonstrated not only their creativity and charisma but also their dedication to uplifting communities. “It’s not just about physical beauty or serving looks,” says Pageant Director Enigma von Hamburg. “Our queens must possess compassion, kindness and a heart for people - qualities that cannot be packaged like makeup.”
The 2024 edition made history when Anastasia K. Boney, a trans woman and police constable, claimed the crown - a milestone that underscored the pageant’s inclusive spirit. This year’s event is expected to continue breaking barriers and inspiring change.
