Strictly Come Dancing favourite La Voix has been forced to withdraw from this weekend’s highly anticipated Blackpool special after sustaining an injury. The 45-year-old drag performer, partnered with professional dancer Aljaž Škorjanec, announced the news on Tuesday (18 November), describing herself as “devastated”.
“It is with immense sadness that I have to withdraw from this weekend’s Strictly Come Dancing shows in Blackpool,” La Voix said in a statement. “Due to an injury, I’ve been advised that I’m unable to perform, and my heart truly breaks knowing I won’t be dancing in such an iconic venue.”
The BBC confirmed that, under competition rules, La Voix and Škorjanec will receive a bye through to next week, when it is hoped they will return to the dancefloor. “We wish La Voix the very best for a speedy recovery,” a spokesperson said.
The injury, believed to be to her foot, worsened after last Saturday’s performance, prompting medical professionals to advise complete rest. Head judge Shirley Ballas revealed that Blackpool had been La Voix’s “dream” since the start of the series, making the setback particularly heartbreaking.
This weekend’s show will see the remaining six celebrity couples perform at the iconic Tower Ballroom, following Vicky Pattison’s recent elimination. La Voix, who has become a fan favourite for her humour and showmanship, assured supporters she will be cheering on her fellow contestants from home while focusing on recovery.
Strictly Come Dancing continues on BBC One this Saturday at 6.35pm.
