Brighton & Hove LGBTQ+ Switchboard, the Outside Project and Stonewall Housing have announced the opening an LGBTQ+ night shelter in Brighton!
Opening January 2023, the shelter, which is funded by Brighton Rainbow Fund, will run initially for 10 weeks. The shelter – Brighton’s first LGBTQ+ night shelter – will provide safety and an affirmative space for people who do not have a safe space to stay or who are escaping domestic abuse from partners or family.
The service, run by a team of LGBTQ+ people, will both shelter and feed people overnight, and support people with their next steps, signposting them to appropriate services. Switchboard will provide those leaving the service with support packages including essential items like bedding, toiletries and treats, which make a real difference to how people are feeling. If you think you can help by donating anything to these support packages, email jane.woodhull@switchboard.org.

Support independent LGBTQ+ journalism
Scene was founded in Brighton in 1993, at a time when news stories about Pride protests were considered radical. Since then, Scene has remained proudly independent, building a platform for queer voices. Every subscription helps us to report on the stories that matter to LGBTQ+ people across the UK and beyond.
Your support funds our journalists and contributes to Pride Community Foundation’s grant-making and policy work.
