Classic American soap 'The Bold and the Beautiful' introduces first gay male couple

After nearly four decades on air, the long-running American soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful has made history by introducing its first gay male couple.
Actors Harrison Cone and Christian Weissmann star as the groundbreaking couple, with Cone playing an aspiring designer whose character becomes romantically involved with Weissmann’s Remy Pryce. Their relationship debuted on 16 September and includes the soap’s first-ever male same-sex kiss - a milestone for a show that first aired in 1987.
Executive producer Brad Bell revealed that the storyline will be woven into a classic “fashion wars” plot, returning the show to its roots of rival design houses. Cone’s character is set to debut at Forrester Creations, the fictional fashion house central to the series.
While this marks the first gay male couple on The Bold and the Beautiful, the soap has previously broken ground with LGBTQ+ representation. In 2012, it introduced its first lesbian couple, Karen and Danielle Spencer. In 2015, Maya Avant became the first regular trans character in daytime television, later becoming the first trans bride on TV. Actor Scott Turner Schofield also made history as the first trans actor to appear in a US daytime soap.
UK viewers can stream episodes of The Bold and the Beautiful via YouTube and Apple TV+.
