Centre Stage Brighton – a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community and their friends – is to close its doors for good on Sunday, April 27.

Announcing the news on social media, Centre Stage Brighton said: “Yes it’s true, the Amsterdam Hotel has sold up. As such Centre Stage is coming to a close, two years earlier than planned but, ya know, all the greats go out with a bang, don’t they?”

And go out with a bang they will! Centre Stage Brighton will be having its closing weekend from 25 April-27 April with Our Big Leaving Bash on Sunday, April 27 from 5pm with Donna Marie as Lady Gaga, Melissa Totten as Madonna, drag star Rose Garden and DJ Dolly on the decks.

Centre Stage Brighton added: “We love all of you, all of our gorgeous staff past and present, our acts, god we have had some epic acts on and all of our party monsters (YOU!).

“Between now and then all remains the same, pop in, get ratted and pass out on a park bench.

“In the words of Bet Lynch, Ta-ra Chuck”

Support independent LGBTQ+ journalism

Scene was founded in Brighton in 1993, at a time when news stories about Pride protests were considered radical.

Since then, Scene has remained proudly independent, building a platform for queer voices. Every subscription helps us to report on the stories that matter to LGBTQ+ people across the UK and beyond.

Your support funds our journalists and contributes to Pride Community Foundation’s grant-making and policy work.
