Brighton & Hove City Council is flying trans flags from Hove and Brighton town halls in honour of Trans Day of Visibility (TDoV) today, Monday, March 31.
Trans Day of Visibility is marked annually to celebrate the bravery, resilience, joy and accomplishments of Trans, Nonbinary and Intersex (TNBI) friends, family, and neighbours .
It’s a day dedicated to empowering trans people to live authentically, showing support for the trans community as allies, and acknowledging the discrimination that many TNBI people experience.
TDoV recognises the diversity and intersectionality of trans communities, celebrating people from all backgrounds and of all abilities and at all stages of their transitioning journeys.
Council Leader Bella Sankey said: “It’s more important than ever to mark International Transgender Day of Visibility, shine a light on our TNBI communities and send out a clear message: We see you, support you and stand beside you.
“As the world continues to be a grim place for our transgender, nonbinary and gender non-conforming communities and their loved ones, it’s vital that Brighton & Hove stays a beacon where TNBI residents can feel safe, respected and valued.
“I encourage everyone to join us in celebrating the unique experiences and identities of TNBI people and honouring their courage in living authentically and openly in the face of society’s challenges.”
