Invisible Boys, a brave new LGBTQ+ drama set against the backdrop of a divisive same-sex marriage survey, follows four young gay men as they understand and explore their identities while living a small, regional town in Western Australia.

Characters Charlie Roth (Joseph Zada), Zeke Calogero (Aydan Clafiore), Kade “Hammer” Hammersmith (Zach Blampied) and Matt Jones (Joe Klocek) represent four very different young men. Yet they share the experience of feeling invisible because of their sexuality.

INVISIBLE BOYS – now streaming on @stanaustralia !!

To my LGBTIQA+ siblings – this is for you. I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed creating it.

An adaptation of Holden Sheppard’s novel of the same name, the story challenges linear narratives of progress and typical ideals of queer life. It also shows how such mentalities can lead gay and bisexual men growing up in regional Australia to feel invisible, as they often don’t fit the neat narratives associated with “progress”.

“I grew up in a small town, and a lot of the challenges these boys face felt like echoes of my own experience,” said Nicholas Verso, the series’ creator and director. “That authenticity was crucial to bring out in the series… in the writer’s room I encouraged everyone to bring their own truths about growing up queer in Australia.”

Invisible Boys is streaming now in Australia on Stan. A global release date is yet to be announced.
