Komedia has announced Allsorts Youth Project as new Charity partner and BLAGSS (Brighton LGBT Sports Society) as new Community Partner for monthly night of queer & alternative comedy club Down the Hatch, starting Sunday, 1 March.

The venue will be collecting donations for Allsorts at checkout on their website, as well as through QR donation slides at the event.

Allsorts Youth Project listens to, connects, and supports children and young people under 26 who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, or exploring their sexual orientation and/or gender identity. Their services include youth groups and one-to-one support, helping parents/carers of LGBTQ+ children and young people, and providing training and education to the wider community, so that all spaces in Sussex can be safer and more inclusive for LGBTQ+ people.

Riley Kewn of Allsorts Youth Project said: “Allsorts is absolutely thrilled to have been chosen as Komedia’s Down the Hatch partner for 2026! Komedia is such a community-driven, LGBTQ+ inclusive space with incredible reach across Brighton and beyond, so having their allyship and support to raise awareness of Allsorts and increase vital donations is so valuable.

"Funding we receive through this partnership will help us to go above and beyond what we receive formal funding for, including offering fun family days out that build community, strengthen connection and boost resilience.”

BLAGSS is an LGBTQ+ sports and social group that has around 470 members from across Brighton and Hove and beyond. Their aim is to encourage LGBTQ+ people and allies to play sport and make new friendships in safe places.

John Moore, BLAGSS Chair, said: “Every time I visit Bent Double and Down the Hatch, I see BLAGSS friends, who enjoy the comedy and the ‘gay’ humour in a safe space with friends – it’s a great night out.

"People join BLAGSS for social interaction as well as sport. Most members are not originally from Brighton, so BLAGSS is a great way to meet and make new friends at sport or other social events.”

Last year’s chosen charity, Brighton Gay Men’s Chorus, will remain a Legacy Partner to continue to boost their values of 'Singing, Socialising, and Support'.

Winner of ‘Best Comedy Format’ award at the 2024 Chortle Awards, Down the Hatch aims to create a space where queer and alternative performers can showcase their talents, whilst continuing to challenge stereotypes, provoke thought, and bring people together through laughter.

Down the Hatch is hosted by resident MC, comedian and presenter Lee Peart. Past acts include James Acaster, Suzi Ruffell, Sam Campbell, Zoe Lyons, Joe Black, Robert White, Jayde Adams, Lachlan Werner, Olga Koch, Josh Glanc, Jessica Fostekew, Jordan Brookes, Ania Magliano, Andrew O’Neill, Kate Butch, Jack Rooke, Helen Bauer, Daniel Foxx, Dane Buckley, John-Luke Roberts, Mark Bittlestone, Joe Sutherland, Chris Hall, Elf Lyons, and many more.
