This year, Brighton & Hove's Actually Gay Men’s Chorus (AGMC) is celebrating its 20th anniversary, a milestone that will be celebrated with Actually Fabulous: 20 Years of Actually Gay Men’s Chorus. Over two decades, AGMC has not only been a beacon of joy and community for gay men and allies in Brighton & Hove but also a force for positive change for the wider LGBTQ+ community through its charitable endeavours and community partnerships.
Founded in October 2005, AGMC has grown into a cornerstone of Brighton’s LGBTQ+ arts and culture scene. Through rigorous rehearsals, stunning performances, and a commitment to fundraising, AGMC has raised thousands of pounds for local charities all while providing a welcoming social environment for anyone who identifies as a gay man or ally.
On 18 & 19 July, AGMC will be bringing Actually Fabulous – an extravaganza concert marking 20 years of Actually and their ‘greatest hits’ - to St Mary’s Church in Kemptown.
AGMC is looking forward to welcoming members, patrons, friends, partners and audience members past and present to join in with festivities and celebrate this remarkable journey.
Alan Baser, AGMC Chairperson, said: “Our 20th anniversary is not just a celebration of music but a testament to the enduring spirit of our community. The Actually Gay Men’s Chorus has been a source of joy and support for many, and I am immensely proud and excited to share this milestone with everyone who has been a part of our journey.”
Samuel Cousins, Musical Director, added: “As a chorus, we, like so many LGBTQ+ groups, have faced (and risen to) many challenges and celebrated countless triumphs over the years. We have always come together with strength and passion through our love of music, our community, friendship and our chosen family. This anniversary marks a new chapter in our legacy, and we can't wait to see what the future holds.”
Since October 2005, AGMC has raised thousands of pounds for LGBTQ+ charities, including MindOut, Clocktower Sanctuary, Sussex Beacon, and Lunch Positive and contributed towards events such as Brighton Bear Weekend and the annual commemoration of World AIDS Day - through themed concerts, gala events and local partnerships.
From its first rehearsals in October 2005, AGMC has grown from a handful of friends into a 50-strong chorus celebrated nationwide. To mark this milestone, AGMC is inviting everyone to:

Choose AGMC's official anniversary anthem from a shortlist of the songs selected to be a part of our anniversary shows as selected by AGMC's musical team. The winning song will be performed at the chorus' July concerts
