When Scary-Britney Spears’ fang-tastic track from 2011 album Femme Fatale, once buried alive in the Japan only edition resurrected itself on streaming platforms last week (just in time for Halloween parties) I felt the ghost of inspiration possess me.

Naturally I had to conjure up a campy, creepy and scream worthy main pop ghoul playlist for the official Scene Spotify page.

I dove in skull-first (no bones about it) and picked mine and my boo’s brains because it’s officially spooky szn and we summoned 66 (obviously) spooktacular pop tracks that deserve a spot in your haunted headphones. We tried to dig up some deep cuts that most Halloween playlists ghost right past somehow! Don’t get me wrong, I’ll always raise a goblet of blood to Monster Mash, Thriller, and Ghostbusters but let’s be honest: most playlists are more trick than treat.

Some of these picks might be a bit of a stretch but if you hate fun, well just say you hate fun.

1.Lady Gaga - The Dead Dance

I couldn’t ghost this one, The Dead Dance simply had to be summoned. To be fair, Gaga’s Mayhem album is a graveyard of ghoulish gems (Disease, Zombieboy, Kill For Love, Die With a Smile-need I say more?) but there’s something eerily enchanting about TDD that makes it rise above the rest. It’s giving haunted ballroom, undead glam and full moon fever all at once.

2.Britney Spears - Scary

Scary being made widely accessible for the first time has given me life, and fans in the US are eating it up like candy corn at a haunted disco.

The track’s long awaited release couldn’t be more perfectly timed seeing as it's spooky season but also as Britney finds herself back in the headlines thanks to fresh tension with ex-husband Kevin Federline who’s stirred the cauldron by writing about her in his new book. The pop princess stays iconic, even when the ghosts of relationships past come knocking of course, it's Britney, Witch!

3.Rina Sawayama - This Hell

4.Nelly Furtardo - Maneater

5.Shakira - She Wolf

Wowowow Shakira truly unleashed the beast in 2009 with She Wolf, a timeless howl of a hit. It’s seductive, spooky and guaranteed to pack the dancefloor faster than a full moon transformation.

And if the crowd doesn’t join in with her iconic werewolf a-wooo, are they even alive?

6.Miley Cyrus - Psycho Killer

7.Slayyyter - CANNIBALISM!

8.Kesha - Cannibal

9.Bebe Rexha - Sacrifice

10.Rihanna - Disturbia

This 2008 classic still slays as a Halloween anthem. From the opening scream, Rihanna casts a spell of pure dancefloor mayhem.

That iconic hook bum-bum-be-dum-bum-bum-be-dum-bum hook is devilishly catchy, guaranteed to summon a pop fueled frenzy at any spooky soirée.

11.Selena Gomez, Marshmallow - Wolves

26.Allie X - Weird World

27.Doja Cat - demons

This track is a chaotic cauldron of chopped-up rap, eerie nursery-style lyrics, and feral vocal rasps-catchy and creepy in equal measure.

It’s Halloween party gold with a side of sass: crank the bass, unleash your inner demon and get freaky. Bonus points for the music video, which is scary AF.

28.Christina Aguilera - Haunted Heart

29.Billie Eilish - bury a friend

From bone chilling lyrics to a nightmare-fueled music video, Billie Eilish’s Bury a Friend is pure haunted pop perfection.

It doesn’t just shrieks creepy. A must add to any Halloween playlist that dares to go dark.
