Top women recognised in Ultimate Planet Lesbian Oscars

Women at the top of their game were recognised tonight, Sunday, March 20 at the Ultimate Planet Awards ceremony at Catford Broadway Theatre in London.

Nominations took place during October and November with nearly 200 women nominating 951 women, events and venues in 40 different categories.

Public voting period was open between December 6, 2015 and January 31, 2016 with 3,997 LBQ women and allies casting 47,523 votes across 40 categories in the arts, media, scene and community.

Naomi Bennett-Hall, Co-Founder of Ultimate Planet, said: “Over the last five years, the social scene for lesbian and bi women has changed and evolved, and is stronger and more diverse than ever, as is the community itself. We are very excited to be able to recognise & celebrate the creativity and passion; blood, sweat and tears it takes to make a thriving social scene and the women and allies behind it all.”

“We have been absolutely overwhelmed by the interaction from the community and its allies during the voting period. The sheer number of votes and the amount of discussion on social media just shows how important these awards are to those in our community. We can’t wait to celebrate with the shortlisted nominees, the winners and lesbian, bi & queer women on Sunday!”
