Firefighters in Hove received an unexpected treat recently when a local resident dropped in with a home-baked Welephant cake to support them in the campaign to save their fire engine.

Hove firefighter and Chair of East Sussex FBU Simon Herbert, said: “Our campaign to save our fire engine continues to grow and this was a lovely way for a member of the public to show their support. Local firefighters really appreciate such gestures and we want to thank everyone who has joined our campaign so far. We remain concerned that a reduction in the number of fire engines from five to just four, will increase risk to public safety and we will continue to call for this decision to be reversed.”

Welephant, who ate an exceptionally large slice of the cake, said: “I love cake and carrot cake is my absolute favourite…..although i am trying to watch my waist line.”
