PREVIEW : Myths and Legends celebrated in Brighton

Those always-inventive folk at Brighton Early Music Festival ( BREMF ) hit the high notes again with the return of live outdoor concerts in June and July  –  all with the necessary social distancing.

After a 14-month gap they will present eight different musical offerings – some twice in a day – and all but one at the Royal Spa, Queens Park. They include medieval music from Italy, India and France.

Entitled Myths and Legends, the midsummer concerts run from 5 June to 11 July. They are:

5 June: The Forest of Mythical  Breezes – sounds about right to describe recent Brighton weather – introduces us to French baroque music and dance .

6 June: Bhrama- Vishnu- Shiva presents Indian music, dance and storytelling.

12 June: Josquin and Fayrfax 500 give us an evening of polyphony with the BREMF Consort of Voices

13 June: The New Troy is a journey through London’s mythical origins.

Also on 13 June: The Destined Knot is a series of Italian madrigals

20 June: A Midsummer Night’s Dream links Mendelssohn and Shakespeare – at St Mary’s House and Gardens, Bramber.

3 July: The Madrigal Reimagined brings us Monteverdi and the poet Ovid.

And finally on 11 July: Opera @ The Spa presents highlights of Francesca Caccioni’s La liberazione di Ruggiero
