In his second preview Brian Butler finds more treats at Pride At The Ironworks
As the month-long Pride at the Ironworks gets ready to launch, here’s my look at the second half of its season.
19 August – An Evening With Heather Peace. The singer/activist chats to BBC’s Kathy Caton about her life, including supporting Alison Moyet’s latest tour. Then she takes to the mic for a gig, with guests.
20 August – Eliza Legzdina is a mother of poetry, sorceress of sounds and Latvia’s best-kept secret, described as an “icon-in-waiting, with lyrics loud with sex positive affirmation”.
22 August – the immensely talented Ben Papworth in Ben Will I Be Famous? I’ve seen Ben singing and tinkling the ivories at venues like the Phoenix Arts Club, and he’s wonderful – prepare for campery, show tunes and wine.
25 August – Girli is an English singer/songwriter and rapper, performing music about feminism, sexuality, Queer culture and mental health.
26 August – Ian Elmslie’s Old Boyfriends presents a one-Gay-man musical revue featuring eclectic original songs reflecting on past loves and lessons learned.
27 August – Willy Hudson first came to my attention at the Edinburgh Fringe and then later at the Marlborough in Brighton. His one-man show Bottom is a brilliant invention – full of bums, Beyoncé and burnt fish fingers in a Queer coming-of-age remix with a cracking soundtrack – not to be missed.
28 August – Cinebra’s 50 Years of Pleasant Pictures. The award-winning musical comedy duo are back with a marvellously anarchic romp.
And finally….
29 August – Booglaoo Stu’s Big Quiffy Bingo gives us games, frivolity, fun, filth and flash mob dances.
