PREVIEW: Aladdin at Emporium

Designed by Gary Blair, written by Doug Devaney and directed by James Weisz, Aladdin is the only traditional panto playing in Brighton this Christmas.

The team behind last year’s sell-out show Sleeping Beauty have reunited to bring their unique spin on another classic… with a little help from their enchanted lamp.

If you had three wishes, what would they be?
Could power and riches set your heart free?
Or maybe you’ll marry your heart’s one desire –
Careful, my boy, you’re playing with fire…

It’s an ancient tale. In fact, it’s one of the oldest – told time and again throughout centuries of story.

A lad from the wrong side of the tracks gets a chance to have it all: wealth, greatness and the girl of his dreams. But castles made of Arabian sand have a tendency to crumble, and soon he has to choose between the man he claims to be, and the man he really is.

Emporium’s Aladdin is an exotic cavalcade of dance, laughs, thrills and romance and the occasional song.

Torn lightly from the pages of the 1001 Nights, this will be the brightest, bounciest, bazaar-est  tale ever told, guaranteed to tease and transport anyone who has ever believed in magic.

So rub the lamp or consult the ring,
Fly the carpet and make life sing.
