LGBT Foundation launches "powerful" campaign - 'This is What a Woman Looks Like'

LGBT Foundation has announced the launch of a "powerful new national campaign", This is What a Woman Looks Like, supported by JCDecaux Community Channel, celebrating the beauty and complexity of what it means to be and look like a woman in 2025.

This is What a Woman Looks Like will be bold, proud and visible in towns and cities nationwide. It features a diverse range of women to maximise visibility and representation for those often excluded from conversations around what it means to be a woman – particularly trans women, lesbian and bisexual women, women of colour, disabled women, older women, and others whose identities are frequently questioned or erased.

Developed by LGBT Foundation, the LGBTQ+ health and wellbeing charity, the campaign will run on digital screens across the UK until the end of June through a partnership with the JCDecaux Community Channel – an initiative that enables not-for-profit community and charitable organisations to access digital Out-of-Home locations.

The campaign is also supported by a dynamic social media drive, platforming women’s stories and reflections on what being a woman means to them. Alongside this, LGBT Foundation will publish free resources and guides on LGBTQ+ allyship and visibility, as well as downloadable assets to help people champion inclusivity.

“The question of what defines a woman is complex, and it’s crucial to recognise the diverse experiences of being a woman,” said Laura Wilkinson, Co-Managing Director of LGBT Foundation.

Rachel Bottomley, Co-Managing Director of LGBT Foundation, adds: “While we anticipate strong emotional responses to this campaign, our aim is for people to feel empowered, represented, and understood, united in the understanding that everyone’s identity and experience is valid.

"By showcasing the full spectrum of women’s lived realities, the campaign aims to shift perceptions and challenge exclusion, offering much-needed space and visibility for all women. As LGBT Foundation marks its 50th anniversary in 2025, the campaign is a timely reflection on how the charity has evolved to meet the needs of LGBTQ+ communities, and the continuing fight for safety, equality and liberation.”
