Pop royalty Kim Wilde dropped her fifteenth studio album and first album in 7 years (Here Come the Aliens came out in 2018) on Friday, and it’s called Closer via Cherry Red Records and is basically the sister to Kim’s hugely successful 1988 (the year I was born hehe) album Close which my mum had on vinyl and gave to me!

Closer captures the spirit and style of Kim’s earlier work but also introduces a modern perspective, blending nostalgic elements with contemporary sounds. Kim’s signature mix of pop, new wave, and rock—known for its infectious hooks, powerful vocals, and anthemic choruses—remains at the heart of her music, ensuring Closer will resonate with both longtime fans and new audiences.
Kim Wilde, who rose to fame with timeless hits like Kids in America, You Keep Me Hangin’ On, and Cambodia, continues to evolve her sound while maintaining the energy and edge that defined her career in the 1980s. Closer is a testament to her enduring appeal and musical innovation.
Kim will be going on tour with European and Australian dates included this year and a full UK tour in March too!
Also she dropped by Brighton last night too at Resident (Brighton’s best independent record shop in the vibrant north laine area if you didn’t know) for a meet and greet and signing and she was lovely-I knew she would be!

Oh and just to say….my favourite tracks are Trail of Destruction, Love Is Love, Rocket To The Moon, Midnight Train, Scorpio, Sorrow Replaced (featuring Midge Ure), Lighthouse, Hourglass Human (featuring her niece Scarlett Wilde), Stones And Bones and Savasana so all of them!
