Fringe! -queer film and arts fest celebrates 15

The 15th anniversary programme for queer film and arts festival Fringe! has an eclectic programme of events across London from 13-21 September.

With the current level of ignorance and hatred towards queer, and particularly trans communities, now more than ever, the festival offers a loud story of joy, solidarity and radical imagination. Here are just a few items that caught my eye.

Ninxs is a joyous Mexican film following a trans teenager; Brigitte’s Planet B is a documentary exploring queerness and ecology in Colombia.

This Is RockbitchX is a gripping look at the radical British femme rock collective.

She Done Him Wrong highlights actor/singer Mae West as a camp icon and queer ally, and Circo is an intimate portrait of a young black queer performer navigating transition in Rio De Janeiro.

There’s a programme of 15 short films too, exploring everything from queer love and sex to oppression, systemic violence and migration.

There’s retro sci-fi and superpowers, chaotic late-night living and in Utopias, there’s a film that traces safe spaces built by lesbians and trans women,

Away from film, the arts programme has exhibitions, performances and hands-on activities, that dive deep into queer storytelling. Love Hub returns with in-person and digital events on sex, well-being, and radical care for bodies.

Kinky Dyke Lounge is an introduction to queer kink and play and a beginner-friendly queer salsa dance class also features. Red Light Green features in a series of short films under the banner Bang - promising hot and sweaty entertainment.
