Behind the glitz and glamour of the Pride Parade, a Carnival of Diversity the politics still managed to shine through.

Brighton and Hove District Labour Party, The Liberal Democrats and Brighton and Hove Green party all had a presence on the Pride along with unions including the RMT, Unite and National Union of Teachers. Peter Tatchell walked with campaigners on the parade and then gave the keynote speech from the main stage where he reminded people of the discrimination of LGBT people in Northern Ireland in the Commonwealth and in the many countries around the world where people continue to be persecutes for being LGBT. Peter received a rapturous response from the main stage audience on the park.

Support independent LGBTQ+ journalism
Scene was founded in Brighton in 1993, at a time when news stories about Pride protests were considered radical. Since then, Scene has remained proudly independent, building a platform for queer voices. Every subscription helps us to report on the stories that matter to LGBTQ+ people across the UK and beyond.
Your support funds our journalists and contributes to Pride Community Foundation’s grant-making and policy work.
