Brighton Kemptown candidate joins resident to present bus petition

Simon Kirby, Conservative Parliamentary candidate for Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven, yesterday accompanied local resident Barbara Cox to the headquarters of Brighton and Hove Bus Company.

THE purpose of the visit was to present a petition on behalf of  Whitehawk, Manor Farm and Bristol estate residents, regarding the 21 bus service.

Over 1,200 signatures have been collected on behalf of residents concerned about the recent changes to the 21 service.

The new route does not include the rear of the General Hospital and down Elm Grove and residents have expressed concerns that the changes have had a detrimental effect on various sections of the community especially the disabled and elderly.

Simon said: “When I was approached by Barbara about her petition I was only too pleased to get involved to try and help.  Many people rely on the buses across the city so it is important the bus company listens to the views and concerns of local residents.

I am hopeful that Brighton and Hove Buses will give this matter some careful consideration and would congratulate Barbara on her efforts in obtaining such a large number of signatures.”

Barbara Cox added: “We are so grateful to Simon for his help with our petition. This is an important issue for many people and a huge thank you to everyone who took the time to sign the petition, I hope the Bus Company will listen.”
