Brighton-based tuberculosis charity, TB Alert, hosted a fundraiser with a difference last Wednesday June 5 – Your Boss is a Drag.
Seven bosses, from locally based companies, donned dresses, wigs and heels to compete in a traditional Miss World-style competition, raising in excess of £10,000 to help save lives from TB worldwide. All to the delight of their employees in the audience!
A panel of outrageous judges: Sauce FM DJ, Jonesy; and cabaret stars, Dolly Rocket and Miss Trudi Styles; critiqued the bosses’ efforts in rounds including the Stiletto Sashay and Tonsil Teaser.
The evening’s proceedings were ably hosted by Brighton’s premier drag queen Miss Jason. If that was not enough, the audience was treated to The Prowler Parade featuring fine male specimens in tight underwear and the chance to win an array of fabulous prizes, generously donated by local businesses.
TB Alert’s thanks goes to all the brave participants: Regina Phalange (Will Brown, Southern Water), Chastity Hazzard (Rich Bridger, LGBT police liaison officer), Shamy Wino (Andy Hills, Leaders Estate Agents), Queen Beatrix of the trade (Maarten Van der Velde, Jaspers Online), Paris Stilton (Guy Lloyd, Juice 107.2 FM), Dada Bella Taxi (James Wright, Streamline Taxis) and Boobra Streisand (TB Alert’s very own Chief Executive, Mike Mandelbaum).
Regina Phalange stole the show with her excellent cover of Cheryl Cole’s Fight for this Love, supported by her Southern Water backing dancers. Hopefully this made Regina’s pre-drag persona, Will Brown, feel better about enduring a chest and leg wax, backstage, prior to the show?
