Zero HIV Stigma Day is held annually on **21 July** in honour of **Prudence Nobantu Mabele**, the first South African woman to publicly disclose her HIV status. Her courage continues to inspire global efforts to end discrimination.

Despite medical advances, stigma remains a pressing issue. In the UK, recent figures show that:

- **31%** of people living with HIV feel lonely or isolated,
- **10%** have experienced verbal harassment,
- **9%** are afraid to be in public spaces.
