# Superdrug receives backlash for inclusive sanitary range

**UK** health and beauty company **Superdrug** has faced backlash for releasing its first line of sanitary products that are gender neutral. The plant-based and vegan friendly [Luna sanitary products](https://twitter.com/superdrug/status/1300034539989934080?ref%5Fsrc=twsrc%5Etfw&ref=scenemag.co.uk) are marketed for ‘people who menstruate’ so as to be inclusive of trans men and non-binary people, with the packaging saying the products are ‘made to suit you as an individual’. The products have sparked backlash with [some saying](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8697841/Shoppers-ridicule-woke-Superdrug-launches-sanitary-products-people-menstruate.html?ref=scenemag.co.uk) the wording on the packaging is ‘erasing women’.

Some Twitter users have said they are [boycotting](https://twitter.com/FreedomSpeakerX/status/1301927074735828997?ref=scenemag.co.uk) Superdrug, with [one](https://twitter.com/Artymanda/status/1301936105625989120?ref=scenemag.co.uk) saying the line should have been called ‘lunacy’. However the new launch has also received positive responses with one user [saying](https://twitter.com/%5Fgracelatter/status/1300744367590838272?ref=scenemag.co.uk) they were ‘so impressed’ by Superdrug’s efforts. The backlash has been [branded](https://twitter.com/skuldvampteeth/status/1302042829133357057?ref=scenemag.co.uk) transphobic by some.

A Superdrug spokesperson told the **[Independent](https://www.pinknews.co.uk/2020/09/05/superdrug-people-who-menstruate-luna-anti-trans-jk-rowling-uk/?ref=scenemag.co.uk)** the line was designed to be ‘as inclusive as possible so all communities feel seen’. They continued trans and non-binary people may still menstruate, so product designers felt ‘people’ was more inclusive than ‘woman’. Jake Edwards of trans support network Mermaids said ‘as a trans person who still experiences periods’, products like this help them feel acknowledged.
