# Southampton Pride to spread colour and Pride through the city this August

**Southampton Pride**, the city’s main Pride event, is to take place on **August 23** and **August 24**.

Organisers of the Pride event wanted to clear up confusion [after it was announced](https://www.scenemag.co.uk/pride-in-the-park-southampton-cancelled-after-a-massive-dip-in-funding/) that **Pride in the Park**, Southampton has been cancelled for 2025\. Southampton Pride said on social media: “We have received a few messages this week and we just wanted to clear up any confusion – our event is NOT cancelled! Southampton Pride is delighted to be returning **23 and 24** **August**!“The event that has sadly been cancelled is Pride in the Park, which was due to take place in June.”

This year’s **#SOProud Pride March** will begin at **Queens Park** at 11am before spreading colour and Pride through the city’s streets.  

Southampton Pride say: “Pride marches are vital expressions of visibility and solidarity for the LGBTQ+ community. They commemorate historical struggles and victories, such as the Stonewall Riots, serving as both celebrations of diversity and protests against ongoing discrimination.

“These events create a safe space for individuals to express their true selves, fostering a sense of community and belonging. By drawing public attention, pride marches educate the broader society about LGBTQ+ issues, promoting acceptance, equality, and human rights.
