**Amanda Clare**, a councillor for **Reform UK**, has pleaded not guilty to charges of assaulting a security guard and damaging property during **Winsford**’s Pride celebration on **28 June**.

Ms Clare, who represents **Winsford Dene** on **Cheshire West** and **Chester Council**, appeared at **Chester Magistrates’ Court** where she denied assaulting **Richard Welsh**, a security professional working at the event, and damaging his camera. She claimed her actions were in self-defence.

The incident occurred during **Winsford Pride**, a community-led event celebrating LGBTQ+ inclusion and visibility. Cheshire Constabulary responded to reports of a “disturbance” at around 4.30pm.

Following the allegations, Ms Clare was suspended from her role working for Reform MP **Sarah Pochin**, who represents **Runcorn and Helsby**. A spokesperson for Ms Pochin stated: “We were made aware of serious allegations involving a member of staff. She was immediately suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.

"We maintain a zero-tolerance approach to any form of disorderly or inappropriate conduct. While we respect the right to a fair hearing, it would not be appropriate for the individual to continue in her role at this time.”

Ms Clare has had a varied political history, having previously been elected as a **Labour** councillor in 2019 before moving through several parties, including the **Socialist Labour Party**, the **Party of Women** and the **Winsford Salt of the Earth Party**, before becoming an Independent in 2024\. She joined Reform UK in March 2025.

In a joint statement, **Cheshire Police** and the **Crown Prosecution Service** reminded the public that the case is ongoing: “Ms Clare is entitled to a fair trial. It is crucial that there is no reporting or online commentary that could prejudice the legal process.”

Judge **John McGarva** granted Ms Clare bail on the condition that she does not contact Mr Welsh. The case has been adjourned until December and will be heard at **Chester Crown Court**.
