# Reading FC supports local LGBTQ+ group

**Reading Football Club** has donated 16 limited full team shirts to **Support U**, a local LGBTQ+ organisation, which will be auctioned to raise donations for the charity. The shirts were worn by **Rafael Cabral**, 2019’s player of the season, **Liam Moore**, the team captain, **Andy Rinomhota** and more. They were also worn during the team’s official **Rainbow Laces** match, which took place at the city’s **Madejski Stadium** on December 5.

A representative of Support U told [**The Reading Chronicle**](https://www.readingchronicle.co.uk/news/19002022.reading-fc-donate-shirts-lgbt-support-line-raise-funds-auction/?ref=scenemag.co.uk): *“We are very lucky to have been chosen to receive a donation from Reading Football Club which included the full team shirts at their recent Rainbow Laces match on the December 5 at Reading Stadium. Bidding is open to purchase these limited edition shirts to raise much-needed funds for the operation of our organisation.”* The shirts are being auctioned[ online](https://www.supportu.org.uk/rfc-shirts/?ref=scenemag.co.uk).

The [Rainbow Laces](https://www.scenemag.co.uk/stonewall-launches-rainbow-laces-campaign/) campaign was created by LGBTQ+ organisation, **Stonewall**, to promote inclusivity and diversity in sports. Stonewall said: *“At a time when Covid-19 has devastated communities and left many isolated, inclusive sport and physical activity are as important as ever. Together or apart, online or on the pitch, let’s work to make sport everyone’s game.”* **Maria Munir**, associate director of community engagement at Stonewall, added: *“During a year which has exacerbated challenges for LGBTQ+ communities, sport has become even more important to keep up spirits and provide a vital support system so we can continue to be there for one another.”*
