**Queer The Marly**, a group of queer people who have come together to protect the building fondly known by many as ‘The Marly’, is seeking donations for a mortgage deposit so they can turn the venue into a permanent queer cultural centre, owned by and for the LGBTQ+ community.

For over 60 years, the **Marlborough Pub and Little Theatre** — affectionately known as ‘The Marly’ — has been a cornerstone of Brighton’s LGBTQ+ life. From hosting **Gay Liberation Front** meetings in the 1970s, to being a hub for lesbian organising in the 90s, to helping launch the UK’s first **Trans Pride** in 2013.

Queer The Marly say: “We campaigned in 2021, got it protected as an Asset of Community Value, and now we have an opportunity to buy the building!

“We have set up a Community Interest Company (CIC) and need to raise £400,000 for a deposit.

“Today it’s trading as **The Actors** but remains an integral part of Brighton’s queer history and present. Now the landlord is selling we want to make sure it continues to be a space for the community into the future.”
