# Nikki Blonsky, star of Hairspray, comes out as gay

Hairspray star **Nikki Blonsky** has come out as gay via the social media platform **TikTok**, using a video of herself lip-syncing to Diana Ross’ iconic LGBTQ+ anthem, *I’m Coming Out*. [You can see it here:](https://www.tiktok.com/@therealnikkiblonsky?ref=scenemag.co.uk)

Speaking to *Hollywood Reporter*, Blonsky, said that, *‘The LGBTQ+ community has embraced me since the moment I got Hairspray. They welcomed me with open arms and I felt so a part of the community already. For me, it was a long time coming. I was wanting to date women and it just was a moment in my life where I was finally just really ready to be myself.’*

Blonsky, who starred as **Tracy Turnblad** in the remake of the **John Waters** film, which earned her several awards and nominations including a **Golden Globe Award** nomination,, also shared the big news on **Instagram**, sharing a graphic of confetti along with the words *‘I’m gay!’*
