**Matt Daniels**, a prominent advocate for LGBTQ+ rights in Birmingham, has been appointed an **MBE** in the **New Year Honours** list. The accolade recognises his exceptional voluntary service spanning more than three decades.

Matt, 50, began volunteering in his early twenties and has since played a pivotal role in supporting and empowering LGBTQ+ individuals across the West Midlands. He is widely celebrated for his work with **Birmingham LGBT** and for founding **The Alliance Network**, a professional network for LGBTQ+ people in the region.

Currently serving as Head of Children, Young People and Families at **Birmingham Voluntary Service Council** (BVSC), Matt has combined his professional expertise with a passion for equality, mentoring and advocacy. His efforts have strengthened community engagement and created safe spaces for LGBTQ+ voices to be heard.

Speaking after the announcement, Daniels described the honour as “a huge privilege” and reaffirmed his commitment to championing inclusivity: “This recognition is not just for me, but for everyone working tirelessly to make our communities more welcoming and supportive.”
