**Labour** MP **Rosie Duffied** has come under fire after she criticised a primary school after it shared an image of young students posing alongside a Progress Pride flag during **Pride Month** in June.

The MP for Canterbury, Whitstable and the Villages, who has been criticised from within Labour for her opposition to gender ideology, wrote on social media: “These tiny children can have no real concept or meaningful understanding of sexuality/gender identity – theirs or anyone else’s.”

They should be left alone to discover these things for themselves as teenagers/young adults, not while still using dummies! [https://t.co/tZQCT8VcQ6](https://t.co/tZQCT8VcQ6?ref=scenemag.co.uk)

In previous years the school had asked pupils to wear bright colours on Pride Day and donate £1 which would go to LGBTQ+ charity **Stonewall** as well as to buy more inclusive resources.

A spokesman for the school said: “As a school with LGBTQ parents, we celebrate Pride by allowing our children to attend in non-uniform. All our personal, social and health teaching is in line with the national curriculum.”
