**BBC**’s **Strictly Come Dancing** waltzed into a new era at the weekend with **La Voix**, the show’s first-ever drag queen contestant, making a glittering and unforgettable debut on the ballroom floor.

The cabaret star was paired with fan-favourite professional dancer **Aljaž Škorjanec**. Their chemistry was instant - though not without a touch of theatrical flair. Upon meeting her partner, La Voix jokingly exclaimed, “That’s the one I said I didn’t want. Absolute joke!” before dramatically storming out, only to return moments later with a grin and a hug. “You don’t know where Aljaž starts and I end,” she quipped, already winning over the audience with her signature wit and warmth.

La Voix’s appearance marks a milestone for the long-running BBC series, which has previously featured drag performers only in its Christmas specials. “Strictly is a national institution,” she said ahead of the launch. “I’ve performed for royalty, **RuPaul** and **Simon Cowell**, but nothing fills me with more excitement (and quite a bit of terror) than the thought of dancing in front of millions on live Saturday night TV”.

The launch show didn’t feature solo routines, but La Voix still managed to steal the spotlight. Viewers flooded social media with praise, dubbing her and Aljaž “Alivoix” and calling her the “saviour” of the series. One fan wrote, “La Voix must win,” while another declared, “I’m so excited, La Voix to slay this ballroom!”

Speaking to *Attitude*, La Voix reflected on the significance of her casting: “It just feels iconic. Finally, someone is going to bring great entertainment to the BBC. I mean, we’ve been lacking it for ages, haven’t we?”

Despite the sparkle and sass, La Voix is taking the competition seriously. “I don’t want to be the Ann Widdecombe of *Strictly*,” she joked. “As long as they’ve got access to Spanx and a crowbar, I think I’ll go far.”
