Simon Kirby MP

**Following recent comments by a UKIP Councillor** that the introduction of equal marriage was to blame for flooding in parts of England, **Mr Kirby said:** *“I am very proud to represent a large gay community in my constituency. Would my Rt Hon friend agree with me that, contrary to the beliefs of some, it is always very sunny in Brighton?”*

In response the Prime Minister joined Mr Kirby in praising Brighton and paid tribute to the MP for his “vigour” in standing up for his constituents.

Mr Kirby is a long standing supporter of equal marriage, and played a key role in the passage of the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Bill through the House of Commons last year.

**Following the session of Prime Minister’s Question Time Mr Kirby added:** *“I am pleased that the Prime Minister is aware of the microclimate we enjoy in Brighton, and I thank him for his kind words regarding my hard work as MP for Brighton Kemptown and Peacehaven.*

*“Despite the warnings of some UKIP members, I know many gay couples in Brighton will be looking forward to excellent weather for their wedding ceremonies this summer.”*
