A new fitness initiative is hoping to help trans and non-binary people feel more comfortable accessing exercise by offering free strength training classes in an inclusive and supportive environment.

**Trans Pride Hastings** has teamed up with **Strong & Nice Lifting Club** and **Sport England** to offer a series of gender-affirming strength training sessions designed specifically for trans and non-binary people who may feel excluded or uncomfortable in traditional gym settings.

The six-week programme, which launches on **Saturday, 15 August** at **12pm**, takes place in a private gym featuring individual changing spaces and no mirrors in the main workout area, helping to create an environment where participants can focus on fitness without the pressures that can sometimes accompany mainstream gym culture.

Organisers say the classes are open to people of all fitness levels and abilities, with no previous gym experience required.

Led by instructor **Elijah (he/him)**, each session includes a gentle warm-up, an introduction to the fundamentals of strength training, a short exercise circuit and a stretching-based cool down.

The initiative aims to remove some of the barriers that can prevent trans and non-binary people from engaging in physical activity, particularly concerns around changing rooms, body image and feeling safe in fitness spaces.

Participants sign up for a block of six sessions, with classes limited to between 10 and 12 people to ensure a welcoming and supportive atmosphere.

The organisers describe the project as an opportunity for trans and non-binary people to build confidence, improve physical wellbeing and connect with others in the community while exploring strength training at their own pace.

Organisers summed up the ethos of the programme with a simple message: **"Let's feel Strong & Nice together."**
