The **Covid-19** pandemic has been terrible news for Pride festivals up and down the country – the latest to announce that its event has been cancelled is **Eastbourne Pride**.

First held in 2017, Eastbourne Pride was due to be held on **Saturday July 18**. A packed day was expected to see a parade followed by the Pride in the Park event and then an after-party. However, the current circumstances have made it impossible to do that.

The organisers have decided that the *‘health and wellbeing of the community and town should be everyone’s top priority’*. They thanked everyone who had supported and attended the event in recent years. There was a glimmer of hope, though, with **#DigitalPride** possibly being on the horizon. It will be interesting to see what that may be about.

Eastbourne Pride has been an award-winning event in recent years. Last year, it won the **2019 Community Event of the Year** in the **Eastbourne & District Community Awards**.

Consultations will be held with the **Eastbourne Borough Council** and Events team to try to arrange a new date. This may be later in the year or more likely 2021.
