**Boy George** has hit back at criticism from some LGBTQ+ people over his controversial new song *We Will Dance Again*, insisting he will not “pipe down” and accusing “gay folk” of attacking him online because of his outspoken support for Israel.

The **Culture Club** star made the comments in a lengthy post on X as debate continues over the AI-assisted track, which was inspired by the Hamas attacks on Israel on 7 October 2023 and the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

George said friends and supporters had urged him to stay quiet and allow the controversy to fade, but insisted he had no intention of backing down.

“So many people are calling me and saying I should pipe down and let it blow over and while they mean well I'm afraid it's not an option,” he wrote.

The singer joked that his determination to “double down” may be linked to sharing a birthday with figures including **Donald Trump**, **Che Guevara**, comedian **Alan Carr** and late entertainer **Paul O'Grady**.

However, George reserved much of his criticism for opponents within the LGBTQ+ community, saying he was surprised by the number of gay people challenging his views online.

“What is most shocking is the amount of gay folk attacking me,” he wrote, adding that “no gay person speaks for an entire community”.

The singer also defended comments he has previously made about threats facing Jewish people, arguing that LGBTQ+ people should recognise the dangers posed by extremism.

“When I say ‘they want to kill every last one of us’ I am also talking about us queers not just the Jewish community,” he wrote. “When will you wake up?”

The singer also condemned anonymous social media users who direct abuse at others without revealing their identities.

“Regardless of which side you take, I am disgusted by anyone who posts hatred against anyone but refuses to show their face,” he wrote.

“If you have something powerful to say then you should have the guts to show the world who you are.”
