A book launch, and exhibition, is to take place at **Encounters Artspace** in Hove for new book ***Sculpting Colour***, a monograph of **Romany Mark Bruce**, the designer and creator of the **Brighton & Hove AIDS Memorial** (TAY).

Written by **Alex Leith**, the biography details Romany’s life growing up in Ireland, and how subsequent events influenced his artistic career. One such important event was being confronted by a stranger while walking his dog in **Steine Street** in Brighton. ‘I want a word with you,’ said the mysterious chap, and walked off without further explanation.

Two days later Romany received and email from the late **James Ledward**, founder of *Gscene* now *Scene* magazine, inviting him to submit a proposal for an AIDS memorial. Having lost his friend **Paul Tay** to AIDS in 1992, Romany’s decision was instant.

Alex also analyses the sculptural techniques Romany employs in painting, and why he regards himself as a sculptor who paints. The book is illustrated with Romany’s sculptures and painting from a career spanning over 30 years.
