# Birmingham Blaze FC to host a weekly “safe space” to get more LGBTQ+ people into football

**Birmingham Blaze FC**, an LGBTQ+ team competing in local Birmingham leagues as well as nationally and internationally in tournaments, has announced weekly football sessions to try to get more LGBTQ+ people playing the sport.

The over-18s sessions run every **Wednesday** at **7pm** at **Ark St Albans Academy**, and have been funded by the **Birmingham Pride Community Trust Fund**.

**John-Paul Kesseler**, co-chair, said: “Not everyone had the ability when they were younger to join a football team.

“We’re a safe space and a safe haven for people who just want to play football.”

The club was awarded £1,740 at **Birmingham Pride 2022** to help set up the initiative.
