# A safe haven for Blackpool’s LGBTQ+ community

Luke and **John Conway**, co-founders of **LGBT Charity UK**, have set up a safe haven for **Blackpool**‘s LGBTQ+ community in the heart of the gay village, which will open on **Monday**, **February 3**.

**Luke and John**, who have been married for four years, are drawing on their own experiences of being gay to help others and have ploughed more than £8,000 of their savings into the headquarters which, once it opens, will also serve as a charity shop and a base for their support services.

Luke said: *“We want it to be an open door for people of any age in the LGBTQ+ community. We will be above the shop so even if someone needs us at 8pm at night, we want to be there for them.*

*“We want to create an atmosphere where LGBTQ+ people are free to be who they are, love who they love, and live without fear of violence, harassment or discrimination.”*

LGBT Charity UK, which will be based at **100-102 Talbot Road, Blackpool**, gained charitable status at the beginning of December after two years of hard work and preparation.
